February 3rd, 1959: 50 years ago today, three pioneers of American Rock ‘n Roll in their early twenties died in a plane crash while on a tour that would have taken them to 24 cities in 21 days. A task nearly impossible still to today’s musicians. Most modern-day bands I listen to who are touring relentlessly across the nation, and world, have the good old Oldies to thank for setting the bar so high not only on touring, but for the inspiration to create quality music.
Rest in peace, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson. Your music lives on forever. [From MSNBC]
