South of the South
This is the location where my wedding ceremony will take place, less than nine months away now. To the left was the pub I saw most of favorite bands play in, and where I met the girl who would later become my fiance. The foundation is all that remains now under a newly constructed doctor’s office. To the right is the Mayor: the 300+ year old southern live oak tree we had our first date under, and the same spot where we stood when I first kissed her is also where I proposed. Its branches large appendages reaching to the ground to rest on, too heavy for the tree’s age. Every rainy season after a long drought shocks the aged wood and it loses a piece of itself.
Will’s Pub has already been paved over, and one day a new tree will have to be planted in the place of The Mayor. But this place will always exist, regardless of what its appearance evolves into. This park serves as a constant staple in time and in our memories, just as my fiance serves as the constant of love and support in my life.
